Hans  Johnson

My name is Hans, and I'm a PhD candidate at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) researching quantum control electronics. I design FPGA-based systems for signal processing and qubit control/readout at Fermilab's SQMS Center.

This website was meant to keep track of some of the projects I have done over the years, both creative and professional.

I spent years demystifying quantum computing for myself and telling all sorts of audiences about it, so I thought that content shouldn't just sit in a computer folder collecting digital dust (or my dissertation collecting literal dust). The way to explain how a qubit works varies depending on whether you're talking to a 7-year-old kid or a scientist at a national lab. But, there's always a way to reach some sort of understanding on even the most advanced topics we can think of...

One of the most important aspects of science is our ability to communicate ideas with each other, and how we do that effectively is (as I've come to find out) probably one of the most challenging parts of the process. Learning about things like quantum computing, technology, or other cool math and science topics is not constrained to one type of media, and you do not need an advanced degree to question how these kinds of things work!

Hopefully some of these pages can offer clarity on a few of the subjects I have delved into, and at the very least are fun to check out! There's also non-educational content as well as this space is more or less treated as my digital sandbox.
